Experience Our Handcrafted Family Syrah

On 1 March 2022 I embarked on a new direction in my Winemaking career and set about personally sourcing/blending and bottling wines at source under a label dedicated to our three children Robert, Lloyd and Nadine.

Limited 2023 Vintage – Only 3200 Bottles

For the 2023 vintage, I sourced red grapes from three exceptional vineyards in Stellenbosch—Langverwacht (Duncan Savage), Reyneke, and Middelvlei. I vinified the grapes at Hemelrand, thanks to the generosity of Chris Alheit.

This wine was handcrafted using natural fermentation with whole-bunch retention and hand punch-downs, aged in 11 old 225L barrels. My pursuit of spice, mouthfeel, texture, and length is reignited.

With excitement, I offer this small bottling of 3,200 bottles of The Family Syrah 2023 for sale.

  • The Family Syrah by Kevin Arnold 2023 Stellenbosch Ex-Waterford supremo Kevin Arnold was one of the pioneers of Syrah in South Africa, so it's no surprise that the first release of The Family Red is so impressive. Combining grapes from three Stellenbosch sources - Langverwacht, Middelvlei and Reyneke - it has some subtle clove and tobacco leaf notes from 15% whole bunches and a palate of pepper, blackberry and red cherry framed by savoury tannins. 2025-33.
